And so it begins. Enough said:

O'Melveny & Myers LLP today filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court a lawsuit against Activision Publishing, Inc., on behalf of video game developers Jason West and Vince Zampella. West and Zampella developed two of the most successful videogames in history – Call of Duty and Modern Warfare – at the Infinity Ward studio, a company they co-founded in 2001. After its acquisition by Activision in November 2003, West and Zampella served as president/game director and CEO, respectively. Activision terminated their employment weeks before they were to be paid substantial royalty payments as part of their existing contracts for Modern Warfare 2.

"Activision has refused to honor the terms of its agreements and is intentionally floutin...

Activision has announced the formation of a new unit to run the Call of Duty series, also confirming reports of the departure of former studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella, according to Reuters. Word is: "An Activision spokesman declined to provide any details beyond the filing, but said the departure of the Infinity Ward executives and the decision to form a new business unit for 'Call of Duty' were unrelated." The story also says: "The new 'Call of Duty' business unit will be led by Philip Earl, who currently runs Activision Publishing's Asia Pacific region. The company said it will look to expand the brand into new geographies and genres, and focus on higher-margin digital online content. Steve Pearce and Steve Ackrich will lead Infinity Ward on an interim basis." The report also...

Title: More on IW/ATVI

Binge Gamer has further information on the situation at Infinity Ward, where it's been reported studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West have been let go by Activision. The report, said to be based on anonymous sources within Activision, says that Infinity Ward has received zero royalties from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (they cannot actually confirm a royalty deal was in place, but note that *every* source they spoke with at Activision mentioned this fact), and they also say that the "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward" Activision has claimed may have been Zampella and West contacting rival publishers about a deal. It is understood th...

Title: More Details on IW Sacking

Following the dismissal of Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West, Activision has officially announced a new Call of Duty title to be developed by Sledgehammer Games. In addition, they have formed a new business unit dedicated to publishing an annual Call of Duty game.

Sledgehammer is being lead by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, both of whom worked on Dead Space, and their new game will "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre." And while this is far from confirmed, we're hearing that it might be the long-rumored "Call of Duty in space." In the meantime, 1UP's sources tell us that Infinity Ward will continue handling the recently announced Modern Warfare 2 map packs as well as future downloadable content, though plans beyond that are unclear.<...

G4tv.com reports on drama at Infinity Ward that includes the apparent departure of studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West amid allegations of "breaches of contract and insubordination." The story began with G4 reporting that a bunch of "bouncer-types" showed up at the Call of  Duty developer's offices following a meeting Activision held with Zampella and West (reportedly the pair were not seen in the offices following the meet). This was followed by Kotaku showing a shot of Jason West's Facebook status reading "Jason West is drinking. Also, no ...

Rumour-mill: Casting call for Treyarch's COD, has Vietnam all over it
Posted: 19.02.2010 07:45 by Technet2k
Activision is yet to formally announce where Treyarch's Call of Duty will be taking place, but this latest casting call in L.A. adds more assurance.

It's set in Vietnam, gamers know it and now Los Angeles voice actors know it. It mentions the US SOG group, which were covert ops in...

...Vietnam! See how it all adds up? The 'Studies and Observations Group' operated from 1964 to 1972 carrying out covert operations against those native commies. The casting call appears to mention four major characters we'll be interacting with.

Barnes, "a fiercely patriotic veteran of WW2… A solid leader, possessed with an excellent ability to assess and respo...
